Registration with the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) can come with a high price tag so it’s worth being prepared.

At Fast Track IELTS, we’re going to tell you what you need to know about NMC registration fees so that there are no nasty (and expensive) surprises.

Getting Started

The good news is that it won’t cost you a penny to create your NMC Online Account.

1. Eligibility Evaluation Fee

Once you have created your NMC Online account, the first part of your registration is to prove that you are eligible to register with the NMC.

You will need to provide evidence that proves your identity and that you have the necessary qualifications for registration.

Once completed, you will need to pay an evaluation fee of £140.

This fee is non-refundable.

A Word of Warning

At this point of the process, if you have made a mistake with your application such as selecting ‘midwifery’ instead of ‘nursing’, you will have to start a new application and pay this fee AGAIN!

So an important lesson to learn is double-check all your information carefully before submitting your application and paying this evaluation fee.

2. Test of Competence (ToC)

If you qualified as a nurse outside of the European Union, you will need to complete the Test of Competence which includes two parts:

• CBT (Computer-Based Test)
• OSCE

Let’s look at the costs involved with these exams.

CBT

The CBT is split into two parts: Part A – Numeracy and Part B – Clinical.

In total, both parts will cost £83.

If you need to resit the CBT, the cost will be:

• Resit for Part A and B = £83
• Resit for Part A = £50
• Resit for Part B = £70

So as you can see, if you fail one area, you do have the option to only resit that area and avoid having to pay the full fee again.

OSCE

This is a practical exam with 10 stations which test your clinical ability, knowledge and planning skills.

The total cost for the OSCE is £794.

If you need to resit 7 or less stations, your resit fee is £397.

If you fail 8 or more stations, your resit fee will be the full £794.

3. Registration Fee

Once you have proved your eligibility, passed the ToC and provided the remaining evidence, you are finally ready to pay the final fee.

This final registration fee will be £153.

Your application will only be complete once this fee has been paid.

Unlike the eligibility fee, refunds of this fee are possible in the following scenarios:

• You withdraw your application before registration has been completed
• Your application was closed due to not providing supporting evidence within the required time
• Your application was unsuccessful as you didn’t meet the requirements
