A lot of students ask us:
“Where can I find or buy OET books to study with?”
The truth is there are not a lot of reliable study books out there as the OET exam is relatively new. The official OET website provides a bundle of OET study books for $129.00 ($159.00 inc. posting and packaging) however this is often not a suitable price for many OET learners.
You may find some OET nursing material online however much of this suffers with a major problem; the question are not accurate when compared to the actual OET exam, especially in the reading and listening sections. For example, a lot of the practice tests found on Facebook or other social media sites may ask a question such as:
According to paragraph 3, how many insulin injections are recommended per day?
A. One
B. Two
C. Three
D. Four
However, the OET reading exam is often much trickier than this. The reading exam expects you to understand the IDEAS behind the text and not just to simply look up the information. A more realistic question is:
According to paragraph 3, why is it important to monitor daily insulin injection volume?
A. To benefit the understanding of studies related to insulin.
B. To ensure the patient does not overdose on insulin.
C. As it is a requirement of GMC and UK regulations.
D. To create a holistic view of the patients progress with the medication.
More often than not, all of these answers will be included in the text and it will be your job to find the correct one based on CONTEXT.
